Read about the benefits of goat milk soap
 and details about our soaps

If you haven't tried goat milk soap, you are in for a real treat. Goat milk soap does softly and naturally what the cosmetic companies are trying to do with handfuls of synthetics and harsh chemicals. While many soaps and cleaning products on the market can be harsh and drying, goat milk soap protects and moisturizes as it cleans.

* According to the FDA, there are very few true soaps on the market today. Most body cleansers, both liquid and solid, are actually synthetic detergent products, even though many of them are labeled as soap. Detergent cleansers are popular because they make lots of pretty suds and smell good.

Unless you've used real, natural soap such as goat milk soap, you haven't experienced the difference and you owe it to yourself  to give it a try.

Cedar Break Farms Soaps is proud to feature simple, natural ingredients.

We use fresh goat milk from our herd of La Mancha dairy goats, a double-dip of locally sourced wildflower honey, and pure, clean pasture-raised heritage hog lard.

  • Goat milk soap would not be what it is without goat milk.
  • Goat milk and goat milk soap are rich in minerals such as selenium which prevent skin damage and protect the upper layers of your skin from excess sun exposure. Goat milk soap is also great if you have acne, eczema, psoriasis, dry or sensitive skin, or if you simply like to protect and pamper your skin proactively.
  •  All of our soaps contain fresh, frothy goat milk.
  • It is a gentle cleanser rich in nutrients and fatty acids that can help support a healthy skin barrier to keep skin nourished and moisturized. Moreover, its high lactic acid content may help exfoliate the skin, which can benefit those with acne when used as part of an overall healthy program.
  • While we do vaccinate, worm and supplement feed as needed to keep our goats in the peak of health, they run 24x7 on rough, unimproved acreage, browsing natural undergrowth and native buffalo grass.

  • Why Lard?
  • Lard produces a delicate, creamy lather in a firm, stable bar.
  • It has mild moisturizing qualities that prevents the soap from drying the skin and is highly compatible with the structure of human cells.
  • Human cell membranes are largely composed of saturated fats, just like the ones found in lard. This is the main reason why soaps based on animal fats have the nourishing properties that plant-based fats don’t deliver. Plant-based fats like olive or almond oil, for example, are a source of monounsaturated fats.
  • We use lard harvested from our own pasture-raised heritage hogs, native Texas Red Wattles and the Hungarian lard pigs, the wooly Mangalitsas.
  • To turn fat into lard, you simply simmer it over low heat and skim off the impurities. There are no harsh chemicals, preservatives or extreme processing methods used or even needed. No factories, packaging or transport. In spite of its current bad reputation, lard makes a better soap that's better for you and better for the environment. It's a win/win for all of us.

  • We use locally sourced, all natural, wildflower honey at twice the recommended rate of a tablespoon per pound. It complicates our process somewhat, but we find the added benefits to be worthwhile. Honey contributes to a beautiful lather and a clean, natural waft of oatmeal and caramel. In combination with the fresh goat milk, it helps exfoliate dead skin cells and draws moisture to the skin as it nourishes and protects. It's especially good for dry or damaged skin because of its antioxidant, antimicrobial and humectant properties.

  • Most of our soaps contain a bit of beeswax . This is locally sourced from the same north Texas farm that supplies our honey. Their bees graze only native landscape, harvesting our natural wildflowers as available by season. Beeswax locks in moisture, fosters cells and protects skin from damaging environmental factors. It's a naturally nourishing moisturizer as well as being anti-inflammatory, antibacterial, anti-allergenic and a germicidal antioxidant.
  • Beeswax has an irritation potential of zero and doesn't clog pores.

If you have other, specific needs, these are the oils we recommend. With a special order, any combination of the below can be used to replace some or all of the lard in your soap.

  • Sunflower oil is rich in vitamins E and A, essential fatty acids, and is super high in Oleic acid. It's addition to our soaps adds a rich, lightweight quality that contributes to a deep conditioning and moisturizing lather. It's especially soothing to dry, weather damaged skin and helps to form a protective barrier, holding in moisture and improving skins' appearance
  • Sweet almond oil is high in vitamins E, A and D, as well as Oleic and Linoleic fatty acids, making it soothing on dry, flaky or irritated skin.
  • Sweet almond oil has been used for centuries to treat dry skin conditions, including eczema and psoriasis. The oils' fatty acid content may help dissolve excess oil on the skin while the retinoids in the oil tend to reduce the appearance of acne, improve cell turnover and reduce obvious sun damage.
  • Please note that we're using sweet almond oil to add desired qualities to our soaps, not almond essential oil for ambiance as many soap makers do.
  • Avocado is another oil well known for its moisturizing properties. It is rich in vitamins A, B, D, and E. It absorbs easily into the skin, providing a medium lather and mild cleansing properties.
  • Coconut oil provides a deeper clean, a creamier lather and a longer lasting bar.
  • Olive Oil has been renowned throughout history for its health benefits and deeply moisturizing and nourishing properties. Used in soap, it gives a clean and buttery feel, providing a moisturizing effect helpful for people with dry or sensitive skin. It contains antioxidant properties that helps repair free radicals on the skin, stimulate new cell generation, slow wrinkle development and can give skin a youthful look. Many people find it provides relief to skin conditions like eczema and psoriasis and even provide anti-inflammatory effects to help sooth abrasions, rashes and sunburns.
  • Safflower oil, like sunflower oil, has a very light texture and is commonly used in many skincare products. It contains linoleic acid, an essential fatty acid and has occlusive properties, meaning that it acts as a protective barrier to prevent water from leaving your skin which helps to sooth dry, flaky skin. It's another of our oils that's rich in vitamin E, helping to enrich and moisturize the skin.
