Our Piggy Ladies, Gents and Bits

We are raising both registered, purebred Red Wattles, and Mangalitsa crosses.

While we are maintaining a single, select high-percent Mangalitsa lady, and will have a limited number of cross-breds available each year, our program has transitioned to focus on our preservation program of purebred, RWPP.Org registered Red Wattles.

With a dozen sows farrowing year 'round, we almost always have piglets and feeders available.  We are happy to talk pigs any time and visitors are welcome to come out and meet the herd.  If you are looking for a feeder, a breeder or a pet, we'll help you find the right one! We can also grow your pig out for you if you don't have your own space.

~ Meet the Cedar Break Breeding Herd ~

All our pigs free-range on pasture running from two to up to thirty-five acres, depending on their age and status.  We breed and 'farrow to wean' on pasture, and have a "piglet tractor" used for weaning. Our feeder barrows run on the main pasture with our breeding stock, are fed once daily,  and we weigh and worm everyone monthly.  We medicate and treat injuries as needed, but don't routinely use vaccines or any type of supplement.

  • What do you get when you purchase a Cedar Break Piglet?
  • Your Cedar Break piglet is the produce of generations of selective breeding, bred not just for meat quality and growth rate, but for temperament and handleability, which is important on a daily basis as you feed them out.  We also select for soundness, robust health, and maternal ability, proven by our process of farrow to wean on pasture with little to no intervention.
  • We don't wean until 6-8 weeks, depending on the piglets and mom's body condition, then we hold them at least two weeks in our piglet weaning tractor where we have daily interaction with them. This gives you you get a big, healthy, well-adjusted piglet that is accustomed to seeing people around and has learned to come to the rattle of a bucket.  It also gives us a couple more weeks to better evaluate growth rates and the qualities of potential breeding stock.
  • Our purebreds are microchipped before they leave the nest so you can be confident of the breeding of your piglet, and have simple, lifelong identification.  (More about the ID chips
  • Breeding quality piglets come with RWPP.Org registration and DNA Parentage verification.
  • We strive to build a relationship with our piglet owners. We offer as much support as we can and are happy to answer any question for those who are new to pigs.
  • NEWS Update!  We now have genetic profiles on our breeding stock, giving us good, usable information on herd health, meat quality, and growth rate. We're working with this information to refine our program to produce only superior piglets, both for eating and for breeding.  This is a years long process and we are happy to chat with you about what we test for and how we are using the results. Read more about genetic testing in our breeding program.
